Somewhere in Britain a home is broken into every 2 minutes 21 seconds.

You cannot control whether it happens on your street. You control two things: whether they pick your house, and whether you have anything on record if they do.

Danny Watson, Co-Owner & Director, PropCare EFS

  • Full colour night vision, not infrared. A jacket, a bag and a number plate, not a grey shape.
  • 30 to 65 days of footage held, so the night you need is still there when you go looking.
  • AI person and vehicle alerts straight to your phone. It ignores the cat, so you never mute it.
  • Fitted by qualified electricians, cabling concealed, 12 month warranty.

The part nobody says out loud

Three numbers about your house you probably do not want to hear

Most people picture burglary as something that happens to an empty house while you are at work. The data says otherwise.

01
612 a day

It is far more common than you think

There were 223,000 burglaries in England and Wales last year. That is 612 a day, one every 2 minutes and 21 seconds. Not a rare event. A daily one.

02
Over half

Someone is usually home at the time

In more than half of the break-ins where somebody actually gets inside, there is a person in the house. Often upstairs. This is not an empty-house crime.

03
Under 5%

Almost nobody gets caught

Fewer than 5 burglaries in every 100 end with anybody charged. 7 in 10 are closed with no suspect identified. On vehicle crime it is worse: 97 in 100, nobody charged.

Put those three together and you get the thing nobody says out loud. It is common, it happens while you are in, and almost nobody gets caught. Which leaves exactly two things you control.

A Sunday night call

“I do not want to sleep here tonight.

A call came in at nine o'clock on a Sunday night. A woman whose house had been gone through that afternoon while she was out.

Police had been. Statement taken. Then everyone left, and she was stood in her own house on her own.

What she said was not about cameras.

“I do not want to sleep here tonight.”

And she got off lightly, if you can call it that, because she was out when it happened. Half the people this happens to are in the house.

The system went in that night. Because we are not really in the camera business. We are in the business of helping people feel safe in their own home.

Where they actually get in

7 in 10 come through a door. It is almost never the front one.

A door does not mean the front door. It means whichever door nobody can see.

We have done enough of these to see the same layout over and over. Camera over the front porch, lovely clear shot of the postman. Round the back: a six foot fence, a side gate with a thumb latch, no lighting, and a footpath along the bottom of the garden.

The front of the house is overlooked by the whole street. The back of it is overlooked by nobody. Once they are over that fence, they have as long as they want.

A doorbell camera is not home security. It is worth having for your Amazon deliveries. It watches the one approach that is already the most visible on the property.

“We have a Ring camera but constantly changing the battery means it is off most of the time. We wanted something hard wired for when we are not home, from all angles of the house.”

More likely to be burgled with no CCTV

The largest UK study of its kind found a home with no CCTV security system is around 7 times more likely to be burgled.

30×

Lights plus cameras, together

External lighting and CCTV combined came out over 30 times more protective than a property with neither.

More likely the second time round

If your house has been burgled once it is 4 times more likely to happen again. They know the layout, the way in, and what the insurance just replaced.

The bit that costs the most money

You get burgled, you claim, and you get paid. Except almost 3 in 10 times, you do not.

Insurers reject almost 3 in every 10 home insurance claims. That is the Financial Conduct Authority's own data, and it is the lowest acceptance rate of any major insurance product there is.

No evidence of forced entry

The single biggest reason a theft claim gets rejected. Policies want to see it. They are under no obligation to take your word for it.

You cannot prove you owned it

The second biggest. No receipt, no serial, no photo. The average home claim is around £6,000, so that is a real amount of money to be arguing over.

Your alarm may be voiding your cover

Declare an alarm and you are on the hook for it. Never set it, never service it, and they can reject the claim on that alone. The box you stopped using is not neutral.

Now think about what a proper CCTV system actually produces

Timestamped footage of how they got in, which answers the forced entry question. And footage of them carrying your things out, which answers the ownership question. The two things insurers argue about most are the exact two things a proper system records automatically, without anyone having to remember to do it.

A cautionary tale

The house had cameras. It recorded the whole thing.

Then it wiped it before anybody thought to look.

A customer's van was broken into overnight on his own drive, with every tool he owns inside it. The house had cameras on it, but nowhere near the resolution needed at night.

Police asked for the footage. They went to pull it off and there was nothing there for that night that was remotely useful.

The recorder was overwriting itself every 24 hours. It captured the whole thing, held it for a day, then deleted it.

With no footage, you are relying on a system that charges someone in 4% of home burglaries. On vehicle crime it is 3%. His tools were long gone.

Why the £200 kit off the internet lets you down

It will switch on. The app will work. For about eight months you will think you did well.

The cost is never the kit. It is the day it does not do its job. And given fewer than 5 in 100 home thefts end in a charge, there is no second chance behind it.

Who is turning up at your door

“I have walked round a lot of houses looking for what is wrong with them.

My name is Danny. I run PropCare Electrical, Fire & Security.

I spent the first year of this business doing electrical safety reports on other people's properties. Which means I have walked round a lot of houses, in detail, specifically looking for what is wrong with them.

That is a strange way to end up in home security, but it turns out to be the right one. Because the job is not selling you cameras. The job is working out where a property is actually weak, and telling you honestly what I see.

“If I think you only need two cameras, I will tell you that. Even though I would earn more telling you otherwise.”

We are NAPIT approved and SAFEcontractor approved. Everything is installed by directly employed, qualified engineers. We never subcontract, and we never leave until you fully understand how your own system works.

What homeowners say

Neat installs, explained properly

“Danny was professional and fair with giving me options on what I could afford. Would highly recommend.”

Aaron Martin

“Had been meaning to do this for ages!! We live in a nice enough area but things have changed in the last few years. Saw the ad and had CCTV installed about a week later from Danny. Thanks for moving so fast.”

Callym Brook

“We have a Ring camera but constantly changing the battery means it is off most of the time. We wanted something hard wired for when we are not home, from all angles of the house. And that is what we ordered. Danny was polite and a good laugh too.”

Before you book

The questions we get asked most

Is the quote really free, and is there a hard sell?
Yes, genuinely free, and no. It is a ten to fifteen minute call. We talk through your property and what you are worried about, and you get a price on the call, followed up in writing. Nobody is turning up at your door to give you a number, and nobody is going to badger you afterwards. If you decide you want to go ahead, that is when we arrange a visit.
Do I need someone at the house before I can get a price?
No, and that is the whole point of doing it this way. From your property type, what you want covered and what you have already got, we can give you a realistic price on the phone. A survey only happens once you have decided you want to go ahead, so you are never sat in your own living room being sold to before you have even seen a number.
Are there monthly fees to keep my footage?
No monthly cloud fees. Your footage is recorded and stored on a recorder inside your own house, not on somebody else's server. You view it live and back through the app on your phone or tablet, at no ongoing cost. Optional annual servicing is available if you want it, but it is never compulsory.
Will it actually be any good at night? That is when it matters.
This is the single biggest difference between a professional system and a retail kit. Cheap cameras use infrared, which gives you a grey shape. Ours use full colour night vision, which gives you a jacket, a bag and a number plate. One of those is evidence. The other is a shape.
How long is footage kept before it gets overwritten?
Our entry systems hold around 30 days. The larger systems hold up to 65 days. Most cheap kits overwrite themselves every 24 to 72 hours, which is exactly how people end up finding the night they needed has already been deleted.
I already have a system. Can you take it over or upgrade it?
Yes. We take over existing alarm and CCTV systems, and we add cameras to systems that are worth keeping. On the call Danny will tell you honestly whether your current setup is worth keeping or replacing. If it is worth keeping, he will say so.
Will you make a mess of my walls?
No. Everything is installed by directly employed qualified electricians, with cabling concealed wherever it is possible to do so. Neat installs are the thing this business is most particular about. We never subcontract the work out.
How long does installation take?
Most domestic CCTV installations are completed in a single day. Wireless alarm systems are usually quicker. You get a full system demo and handover before we leave, plus a 12 month warranty.
What about my neighbours and data protection?
A reasonable question and one worth asking. Cameras are positioned and angled to cover your property and its approaches, with privacy masking applied where a view would otherwise overlook a neighbour. We will walk through exactly what each camera sees with you at handover.
Which areas do you cover?
We cover Hampshire and Essex, with engineers based in both. If you are just outside, put your postcode in anyway and we will tell you straight away whether we can get to you.
